I’ve always been a nail kind of person. If there was some event going on, nails were always one of my accessories. Getting a pedicure and manicure can be costly so I started to learn to make pretty designs instead. I try to always have my nails painted and take them off before they chip, give them a breather and repaint them. I was turning in my final exam the other day to my professor when she stopped me and said “Let me look at your nail!” I felt so flattered. She asked me how I did them and what color they really were. I had a deep dark purple with a splash on glitter from the oh-so-famous Covergirls’ “Disco Dazzle” over them. It’s my newest favorite combo. Any color + disco dazzle.

I know a couple of my readers love nail polish too. Jennifer at CheetahPrint;; always inspire me. Always blogging about the new colors she got and making swatches. BTW, check out her blog – she is the sweetest girl ever with great sense of style!

Anyways, I have complied a list of my top 5 nail polishes every girl should have. Just be careful and not to get it on your keyboard when leaving a comment and painting those nails.

1. Classic Red

It’s a classic and will always be in style. If you feel like this red is too bold for you, use it on your toes instead of try to mix it in with a pattern. My favorite? Red french tips. And I’m a sucker for glitter, you’ll see that throughout all the photo. My favorite red nail polish actually came from a kit from Bath & Body Works but I’m not sure if they still sell it. Try any of the reds from Goldie’s Nail Lacquer. I love mine!

2. A Neutral Color

These for your low-key days. I want something pretty and subtle and this is it. I have some neutral colors with a tint of sparkles in it and some that are very glossy. I’ve never been a fan of the matte colors but hey, maybe it will work for you? I feel like it’s already so low key, having it matte will just be boring. Try OPI’s Tickle My France-y. I love OPI colors because of their names and their collection.

3. Sweet & pretty Pink

I’m not a girly girl. But there’s something about pink nails that makes me feel super pretty. I’m a huge fan of bubblegum pink and the barely there pink. I’ll pass on the hot pink though…

4. Metallic/Glitter Shade

Like I said before, I’m as sucker for anything shiney or sparkly. My favorite shade of all time would have to be gold. I have around 6 or 7 different shades of gold. My favorite is NYX’s Golddigger. The name of the color is too cute to pass up. I also have some shades that are just glitter and if you paint enough coats, they turn into a actually shade.

5. Your Favorite Color

Orange. Yes, my favorite color is orange. I’m really angry that I can’t find that photo of my prom nails. They were orange french tip with glitter and had an sliver glitter line hugging the tip. Ugh. Orange is a tricky color to wear because it’s so bright and some of them scream “Halloween”. Other colors that are hard to wear is Green. I have yet to see a shade of green that doesn’t scream “Witch” at me…  So go ahead, get a random funky fun color!

Definitely, definitely INVEST in nail polish. Yeah $9 for a little bottle is ridiculous but those $1 nail polishes will chip and apply them is a mess. They are always too runny or two thick. Go ahead and splurge on those classic colors because they will always be your go-to bottle. For those fun colors, I guess it’s okay to get the more budget friendly ones.
